home dedication & s'mores

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing, and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God; That your incomings may be in the name of the Lord, that your out comings may be in the name of the Lord, that all your salutations may be in the name of the Lord, with uplifted hands unto the Most High."  D&C 109: 8 & 9

We are slowly settling into our new house (finally homeowners, yay!) and we felt it was important to  have a special dedication.  So for Family Home Evening yesterday, Kurt gave a wonderful lesson to the kids about how our home is meant to be a place of safety, peace and refuge.  We talked about taking care of the house, loving one another and being peacemakers within the walls of our home.  We all knelt as he offered a prayer of dedication.  No matter the evil that goes on out in the world, when our children walk in our front door I want them to feel loved and safe.  Afterward, we celebrated by roasting up s'mores in the backyard.  The lesson must have sunk in because the rest of the evening was peaceful and full of kindness and laugher and we all held hands and told each other we loved each other.  Wait, wait, wait.....that was a big fat LIE.  Ha!  If only, right?  Lets be real, the mayhem ensued as usual.  Uggghh.  At least we try.
